Those may include domain and LAN passwords. Windows Credentials Manager creates and controls this folder, storing many applications' private data in it. Network Credentials Directory (optional). If this parameter is not set, the recovery wizard will be unable to find out the path to user's Master Key on the third step, and the further recovery is only possible when that parameter is properly supplied. User's profile folder is the starting point for the automatic detection of some other options that appear on the next step. The software normally detects it automatically by the user's registry located in it (see above). Path to user's profile (optional parameter). This parameter is mandatory, and the further recovery is impossible unless this parameter is supplied. For Vista, the default path may look a bit different: C:\Users\%USER%\ ntuser.dat. In Windows XP-2003, the path to this file normally looks like this: C:\Documents And Settings\%USER%\ntuser.dat, where %USER% stands for your account name. User's registry is the main container that stores three types of encrypted Internet Explorer 7 passwords (there are totally 4 of those). Path to the user's registry file (ntuser.dat), which is located in the user's profile. However, if it fails to succeed, it will ask you to enter the necessary data by hand: Actually, the software will try to acquire all the necessary data automatically. On this, second step of the manual recovery, you will be prompted to enter the three parameters that are necessary to start the recovery process. STEP 1: Selecting the manual operating mode To be more accurate, there are just 4 steps, and during the first step, you are to choose the operating mode itself. The manual mode for IE7 passwords can be theoretically split into 5 parts or 5 steps of the PIEPR's Wizard. More flexible and advanced, it uses some specially invented algorithms and allows extracting keys that are unavailable in the automatic mode. Therefore, to ensure the complete recovery of the password, we have added the manual operating mode to the application's Wizard as an alternative to the automatic recovery mode. That makes it extremely difficult to recover such data, especially in the automatic mode. Unlike its older brotherhood, the new version of Internet Explorer 7 utilizes absolutely different concepts of encrypting private data, without saving encryption keys. Step 1: Selecting the manual operating mode. Thanks again to Paul, and sorry again to Raymond. You can translate the article into your native language in order to get the program's registration for free. So the solution is simple, run regedit and go toĪnd set the value AppData to a data value of %USERPROFILE%\Application Data So when MSN or other apps that use that registry key go to save their data it gets lost. The problem here is AppData should actually be the following When Yahoo toolbar gets installed it sets the following registry value: YOU DON’T NEED TO INSTALL THIS APP!!! All you need to do is change a registry setting.Īfter hours of messing around with RegEdit + Yahoo Messenger + Microsoft’s Virtual PC I’ve found the problem and a solution to why apps like Msn Messenger suddenly can’t remember their passwords anymore. Thanks Paul, the fix you details worked perfectly!Ĭopy & Paste of the fix that Paul detailed very well P.S: Sorry Raymond, nothing personal but I take security very seriously. I suggest EVERYONE tries Adam's fix first, before even considering Raymond's fix! well.god knows what that application does behind the scenes! I wouldn't get a chance to know because my security suite wouldn't get a chance to warn me before the restart occurs. With thanks to Adam I have attempted the fix he details and I will see how this goes instead.at least this way I know what has been changed because I changed it myself and I know how to undo the change too - where as with Raymond's fix. Perhaps you're making the computer shut down so quickly because you don't want some security application(s) to pick up on the fact that something unsafe has changed and warn the user.! Sorry Raymond but I cannot trust a downloaded application to fix a problem such as remembering my username/password!! I was a bit skeptical about the fact that your application apparently forces the users computer to shut down once your application has done it's stuff.
